Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Warns Parents of Lead Hazards in Multiple Recalled Products

LA Testing offers consumer product, environmental and material testing services for lead and other regulated substances to safeguard the public and to help prevent costly product recalls.

Huntington Beach, CA – WEBWIRE

Last month, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) alerted parents and caregivers about the potential health risks associated with a number of recalled children’s products. The agency listed specific products ranging from cups made for toddlers to children’s clothing, toys and hairclips that had all been recently recalled due to containing lead at levels that exceed federal safety standards.

Public Health warned:
Parents and caregivers of young children are urged to stop using these products and consider testing children for lead exposure. Children less than six years old are at a higher risk of lead exposure because their bodies are still developing, and they tend to put their hands or contaminated objects in their mouths. A child with lead poisoning may not have visible signs or symptoms. If a child was exposed to lead, parents or caregivers should talk to their child’s healthcare provider about getting a blood lead test.

“There have been a significant number of children’s products, many of which were imported, that have been recalled in the last twelve months due to lead exposure hazards,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “The United States has strict regulations to protect children from lead and other heavy metals. Companies that violate these regulations put consumer at risk and these recalls can be very costly for manufacturers, importers and distributors.”

Dedicated to helping companies, regulatory agencies and health advocates across California test for lead and other regulated substances are the scientists at LA Testing. Their material and product testing services protect consumers and can also be essential for helping companies comply with health and safety regulations to avoid these types of product recalls.
