Launch of Bayer Science Collaboration Explorer: Bayer launches transparency register for scientific collaborations with external partners

Bayer AG is the first company in the future DAX-40-index to introduce a transparency register. The Bayer Science Collaboration Explorer is aimed at improving long-term public confidence in science and research. The database (bayer.com/bsce) provides access to new contract-based scientific collaborations with universities, public research institutions and individuals in Germany.

“Solving humanity’s major challenges requires trusted scientific innovations. For that, we need transparency,” says Bayer AG CEO Werner Baumann. “Today we are presenting the Bayer Science Collaboration Explorer, a leading initiative setting standards for corporate transparency and community engagement.”

Dr. Monika Lessl, Head of Corporate R&D and Social Innovation at Bayer, added: “With the Bayer Science Collaboration Explorer, Bayer and our external partners want to create more transparency regarding our scientific collaborations. We see the register as an important element towards promoting dialogue between society, business, and research on the topic of new scientific discoveries.” The transparency register will initially launch in Germany before being introduced in further countries.

Specifically, the following core details will be published for each contract: Name and country of the institution/person, collaboration type (e.g., research contract), subject of collaboration (e.g., oncology, digital farming), funding committed, effective date, participating Bayer division.
 
Announcement during Bayer Transparency Day – Inside Science

At 2:00 p.m. on September 16, 2021, Werner Baumann, CEO of Bayer AG, will introduce the Bayer Science Collaboration Explorer during Bayer’s virtual “Transparency Day – Inside Science” event. Following its publication, experts from science, business, media, and civil society will discuss the following theme: “Collaborations between companies and research institutions: Transparency as a key to societal trust?” A recording will be made available on the event website (bayer-transparency-day.com) after the event.
