Dettol supports Malaysian COVID-19 response

We have given 386,500 units of Dettol hand sanitiser to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) to support its efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The hand sanitisers, worth over £500,000, will be distributed by MRCS to vaccination centres, government hospitals, community clinics and care homes; as well as directly to vulnerable residents and those living in rural communities.

The donation is part of our global partnership in the Disaster Relief Alliance with the British Red Cross and is the latest and largest of a series of donations by Reckitt Malaysia in support of local communities since the start of the pandemic.

“Our mission is to protect, heal and nurture and with the surge in cases we’ve seen recently, we felt we had a part to play to protect Malaysians in our relentless pursuit of a cleaner and healthier world,” said Gonzalo Balcazar, Regional General Manager of Reckitt Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.

“This crisis needs significant humanitarian efforts, and we are pleased to partner with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society to continue the efforts. This donation campaign is part of our fight to maximise access to essential hygiene products which are integral in this battle against COVID-19, instil good hygiene habits among Malaysians, and drive public awareness of the importance of keeping oneself protected even post-vaccination.”

The products were presented to MRCS National Chairperson, Her Highness Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Tunku Temenggong Kedah at a ceremony earlier this week.

She said: “We are grateful to Reckitt Malaysia for the donation of Dettol hand sanitisers, which are essential for our hygiene and healthcare promotion and awareness activities throughout the country.

“Considering the escalating numbers in COVID-19 infection, it has become our personal responsibility to heighten general hygiene and cleanliness practices, especially in homes and workplaces where we spend most of our time these days.

“I am confident that the donated products will go a long way in meeting our community outreach objectives, helpful in preventing virus infection amongst individuals and vulnerable communities.”

The ceremony was also attended by the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, His Excellency Charles Hay.

He said: “This humanitarian effort is timely as the global community join hands to battle the pandemic and help those whose lives have been affected by it. Reckitt’s donation will help support vulnerable communities here in Malaysia.”
