The Carrefour Foundation 20 years of charity support

Today, it is one of the ten most active ones in terms of the amount of money it donates every year – €6.75 million was given away in 2020. With 47 projects funded in 2020, the Carrefour Foundation is particularly active in France. Decidedly collaborative, the support that it gives is both financial and operational in nature. Over the last couple of decades, the Carrefour Foundation has also created partnerships with numerous iconic charities, such as the Restos du Cœur, the Réseau Cocagne and the Food Banks. The Carrefour Foundation is also an international foundation, supporting projects in nine of the Group’s integrated countries, as well as helping its franchisee partners in emergency situations in other countries in which the Carrefour group operates.

A new mission: supporting the inclusive food transition

Since 2018, the Carrefour Foundation has been engaged in initiatives to bring about the inclusive food transition, focusing its efforts on three main areas: sustainable and community-supported agriculture, combating waste and societal commitment linked to food. Having helped fund more than a thousand projects in 20 years, the Carrefour Foundation has been helping to make healthy food more widely available, as well as taking action to support the circular economy, facilitating social and professional integration, supporting scientific research, helping vulnerable people, and fostering a commitment to promote healthy eating habits.

These are all aims for which – thanks to its presence throughout the world – the Foundation can maximise its impact, effecting lasting change in people’s practices and supporting generations of stakeholders committed to the common good, either at local level or globally.

Its resolutions for 2021: continue supporting innovative initiatives, while continuing to focus its attention on the end beneficiaries.

With 20 years of experience under its belt, the Foundation is now turning its attention to the future. Now, more than ever before, given the health crisis that the world is currently experiencing, the Carrefour Foundation’s initiatives and commitment are particularly meaningful. It has set itself the aim of establishing itself as a long-term partner of charity stakeholders, with innovative ideas to help them develop their charity projects that have a link with food.

For 2021, the Carrefour Foundation wants to focus its efforts on tackling all forms of waste, supporting new sustainable agricultural practices (such as incubators and urban farming projects) and on working more at regional level. Evidence of this commitment will be seen on 15 February with the launch of the call for projects based on the Together for the food transition! theme in partnership with Carmila.
