About the Author:

Christine Conforti was raised in Paterson, New Jersey. They were very urbane compared to kids that lived in cities right next to them, but at the same time they were as innocent. When her parents divorced she got a peek into the dark side of the world and experienced the first ever heartbreak as she would come to understand it.

Still she believed in kindness and love and dreams coming true. In Paterson they were having a renaissance, to some extent, started by a classical yet modern sculptor Gaetano Federici, who had left an impression on her. Christine thought that every city had a “sculptor.” She also thought that if she was to be any kind of artist or craftsman, she’d have to be as good or better than Federici. She could not claim success without making art that was as monumental and as important.

Christine studied Liberal Arts and had refined training in theater arts and crafts, music and dance. She was able to bring that home. By a stroke of serendipity, she was a part of the commission to write the History Play of the City of Paterson for the Bi-Centennial of the city in 1992. Working with the Theater and Music Department of William Paterson University, Christine was able to create her first true work of art. She wrote the storyline and poetry for the play as well as music based on the city brand, at the time, for children to sing at the end of the show. The small musical piece inspired a longer libretto telling a similar but minimalist “Bread and Puppet” style “Ballet.” These two works solidified her desire to continue to create for the stage. However, in order to be creative with little and no resources, she had to pare down her storytelling to 10-15 minute performances for what was later to be called the Ivanhoe Artists Mosaic Inc.
