“Giving Tuesday”

The global Covid-19 pandemic has made the precariousness and isolation (whether social, geographic or in terms of access to healthcare) of certain vulnerable groups more visible than ever.

With this in mind, the Rescue & Recover Fund decided to focus its end-of-year campaign on three projects aiming to strengthen support for those who are most isolated.

This call for donations will continue until 31 December 2020. All year long, donations will be matched. On 1 December, Giving Tuesday, all donations made will be multiplied by 3*!

In France: The French Red Cross

In France with the French Red Cross, which works to meet the different needs of isolated groups: the elderly, people with health problems or disabilities, those living in unstable conditions, etc.

After taking widespread action during the epidemic to maintain support for the most vulnerable, the French Red Cross now aims to develop and enhance its initiatives around four key priorities:

• Identify and locate socially isolated persons through programmes such as “the Red Cross on Wheels” or food drives, which focus on outreach to fragile populations, or the national “Red Cross at Home” support service line, which offers home deliveries (09 70 28 30 00).

• Meet the psycho-social needs of those living alone with the help of French Red Cross volunteers who provide social contact through home visits, or through regular phone calls with the “Hi, how are you?” programme.  They can also allow vulnerable persons to maintain contact with their loved ones by giving them access to communication technologies (phone calling via video, for example) and teaching them how to use these tools.

• Meet other needs of these groups, notably related to the difficulties of daily life (shopping, travel, home repairs, care for children or other loved ones, etc.) or accessing their rights.

• Prevent social isolation and facilitate renewed autonomy through local solidarity networks by helping these groups to strengthen their social circles (citizen engagement, neighbourhood solidarity actions, etc.).

In Haiti: CARE France

In Haiti with CARE France to alleviate the geographic isolation of populations in the communes of Jérémie, Beaumont and Roseau by promoting their food self-sufficiency.

With four out of five people living with less than €2 per day, the Grand’Anse department in Haiti is one of the poorest regions in the world.  Located on the path of hurricanes, Grand’Anse is exposed to risks of drought, flooding, mudslides, and earthquakes.

The communes of Jérémie, Beaumont and Roseaux are accessible only by a road in very poor condition, which isolates them considerably from the rest of the island and makes them particularly vulnerable to the annual passage of hurricanes.

Agricultural recovery initiatives are now essential to fighting the isolation of these communities in the face of food insecurity, made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The project aims to promote financial education in these communities to facilitate their autonomy (via enhanced management of their farming activities and economic resources), to repair the road by recruiting local workers in order to improve transport and access to businesses, and to raise awareness among nursing mothers and mothers-to-be of the nutritional needs of young children and pregnant women.

In Burkina Faso : Doctors Without Borders

In Burkina Faso with Doctors Without Borders (DWB) to provide aid to displaced and isolated persons.

With its 20 million inhabitants, Burkina Faso has seen massive displacements of its population due to armed conflicts in the region. In mid-2020, there were nearly 850,000 displaced persons in the country.

In order to provide assistance to displaced persons, DWB has stepped up its actions throughout the country. In the province of Loroum, in the cities of Titao and Ouindigui, DWB is improving the health situation of these displaced and isolated populations through a range of actions, notably by improving their access to water, providing primary healthcare, distributing hygiene kits and/or shelters and carrying out initiatives to prevent and fight Covid-19.

#GivingTuesday: The Rescue & Recover Fund will triple your donation*!

Since 2012, the BNP Paribas Rescue & Recover Fund (RRF) has collected donations for the initiatives of its partner NGOs. In eight years, nearly 5 million euros have been donated to support actions on the ground.

To mark #GivingTuesday, each donation from a private individual (BNP Paribas employees, retired members of Amicale des Retraités and Retail Banking customers in France) made through the fund on 1 December will be tripled, rather than matched, by BNP Paribas.

For a donation of €50, the NGOs will thus receive €150 in full (100% of the fund’s operating costs are covered by BNP Paribas).

France: With the 66 % tax reduction for donations made to a nonprofit or charity organisation in France, a donation of €50 actually costs only €17. 

 Belgium: With the 45% tax reduction for donations of over €40 made to a nonprofit or charity organisation in Belgium, a donation of €50 actually costs only €27.50.
