BRF, one of the largest food companies in the world, and rural producers in Lucas do Rio Verde (MT), received, once again, the certification of the company WQS, a seal that confirms the non-use of antibiotic that promotes growth or therapeutics during raising chickens. The number of birds benefited by this project is 20 million / year. This audit is an important recognition that guarantees production practices and the transparency of BRF’s processes to the final consumer.

To receive WQS certification, birds are inspected at birth, during growth and slaughter. The feed consumed by the animals is also checked so that there is no use of any type of antibiotic in the manufacturing process. The Sadia Bio line has also just renewed the international Certified Humane seal, which recognizes the application of good animal welfare practices. To obtain recognition, farms need to provide an environment that encourages the birds’ natural behavior, such as scratching, sputtering and flapping wings. The recognition came for the fourth consecutive year, also to Lucas do Rio Verde producers.

“Animal welfare is part of our strategy and, in synergy with these and other international certification entities, we maintain the commitment that is linked to the sustainable development of our business and guarantee the quality of the production chain with regard to our products ”, Declares Mariana Modesto, executive manager of Sustainability at BRF.

The Sadia Bio line guarantees animal welfare in production and enables product traceability, which allows consumers to know the origin of the chicken they are placing on the table. With the lot number located on the packaging, it is possible to specify the farm responsible for the process of creating the purchased product.

In addition to the stamps awarded by WQS and Certified Humane, BRF also has other certifications that attest to good animal welfare practices, including Global GAP and National Chicken Council, where standards are assessed by PAACO certified auditors.
