The importance of Love in Health care: Exploring Alternative Medicine and its Complementary Relationship with Conventional Medicine

Dromana, VIC, Australia – WEBWIRE

In 1979, Peter Johnston, a family doctor with three young children, received the news that his 32-year-old wife had progressive and incurable lung disease. In the following two years, he saw four patients recover from incurable diseases using no medications, herbs, vitamins or any physical therapies. He could see the human body had a capacity for healing itself. This realization initiated a forty-year exploration of alternative healing systems, some of which he used alongside conventional medicine in his practice.

Peter’s book, “The Eagle’s Way: The Importance of Love in Healing” looks back at the changes he has seen over the sixty years of his study and practice of medicine. Despite the remarkable advances in medicine, surgery, obstetrics and resuscitation, he has witnessed an increasing interest in alternative and complementary medicine by the public. While the effectiveness of conventional medicine is obvious, the power of the mind and consciousness to bring about healing is less well known. Peter’s book addresses this.

“The Eagle’s Way” explores the philosophies, principles and relationship between the conventional and complementary approaches to health care. In general, surgery and medications fight disease whereas therapies involving mind-body-spirit embrace disease, treating it as a symptom of inner disharmony. However, both systems are necessary and the author believes that integrating both systems holistically is the healthcare of the future.

The subtitle of “The Eagle’s Way” is the importance of love in healing. Whether conventional or complementary treatments are used, love, manifested as respect, trust and compassion, are essential components. It is important for practitioners to show compassion towards their patients. But even more important for patients to show compassion for themselves.

Dr. Johnston allows readers to see medicine in a new light as he brings understanding and cohesion to 150 different therapeutic approaches to healthcare. His book provides knowledge not only for therapists but to the general public. It delivers an easily readable explanation for the confusing array of healthcare practices.
