Apartment Fire Displaces Dozens of Residents and Creates Indoor Environmental Quality Concerns

The  Kent Reporter  recently published an article about a two-alarm fire that took place at a large apartment complex outside of Seattle. The fire is reported to have been contained to just several units, but the smoke and water damage it created has displaced residents from approximately 90 apartments until the building can be properly repaired.

This case is a reminder that even a relatively small fire in a multi-tenant building can have a far-reaching impact on all of the people that live or work in the same building. Fires typically create a tremendous amount of smoke that can easily travel throughout multiple floors and units of a structure. This smoke is made up of a number of combustion by-products that include ash, soot, char and other materials. Moisture that remains for more than 48 hours will often result in the growth of mold.
