MAX Wins 2020 Edison Award

Light bulb! Wouldn’t it be great to have an award that simultaneously honors one of the most impactful inventors ever AND celebrates new, game-changing achievements? Thankfully, there is a committee dedicated to executing just this, and it’s done in honor of Thomas Alva Edison.

Today, on Edison’s 173rd birthday, GoPro is thrilled to announce that GoPro MAX has been awarded an Edison Award in the Media, Visual Communications and Entertainment category.

The Edison Awards, named after the inventor himself, recognize and honor game-changing innovations that are at the forefront of new product and service development, marketing and human-centered design.

MAX, specifically, was recognized for taking the 360-camera world to the next level by launching the first three-in-one device that delivers the power of a traditional GoPro HERO camera, a 360 camera and a professional vlogging powerhouse. MAX also caught the attention of the judges for its in-camera stitching, which dropped the number of SD Cards needed to ONE, and easy editing workflow thanks to the new, keyframe-based solution, Reframe. With Reframe, MAX footage can be edited within the GoPro App (for mobile or desktop) easily with infinite possibilities. You can get a taste of MAX + Reframe in the video of below.

This is second Edison Award GoPro has received; the first was awarded in 2018 following the launch of Fusion, our first 360 camera, which earned a Gold in the Media, Visual Communications and Entertainment category. To round out 2020, HERO8 Black also earned an Honorable Mention in the Consumer Electronics and Information Technology category.

There are a total of 14 categories for which nominations are reviewed by the Edison Awards Steering Committee. The final ballot is then sent to an independent judging panel. The judging panel was comprised of more than 3,000 professionals from the fields of product development, design, engineering, science, marketing and education, including professional organizations representing a wide variety of industries and disciplines.

We are honored to be held to the same regard as the great mind who paved the way to sharing content when, in 1896, Edison became the first person to project a motion picture. Thank you, Edison, and thank you, Edison Awards.
