About the Author

Jacquie Faber was an elementary school teacher thirty-one years in the Ross Valley School District in San Anselmo, Calif. She graduated and earned her teaching certificate from San Francisco State in 1965 with a Lifetime Credential in Elementary Education. In her teaching career, she specialized in Project-Based Learning (P.B.L), a way of teaching that empowers students by giving them a chance to decide what specific areas of the curriculum they would like to study. This teaching method allows students to pick a chosen subject they are interested in, like butterflies, for instance, then write about it and design a project to go along with their writing. She was awarded the Golden Bell Award for this in 1999.

Jacquie, in her class, taught her students lessons about mistakes and growing from it, and “following their bliss.” Her “Desiree’s Night Flight” illustrates how much she values these principles, especially the latter one.
