Novenco’s fan technology can deliver on New York City’s ambitious building efficiency code

The Danish-based company NOVENCO Building & Industry was selected among the finalists in the Access Cities New York Open Innovation on Air Quality and Urban Heat Island Effect to provide the best climate solutions for New York City.

That kind of energy efficiency capacity is interesting to New York City agencies who are charged with delivering one of the world’s most ambitious energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emission reduction regulations, mandated in New York City’s Local Law 97.

Local Law 97 requires buildings larger than 25,000 square feet to meet strict greenhouse gas emissions limits starting in 2024. This new law is expected to reduce cumulative emissions from large buildings at least 40% citywide by 2030 through building retrofits, and will apply to 50,000 buildings across New York City.

Taking on energy waste in the HVAC industry

The HVAC industry in America is dominated by use of centrifugal fans – a technology with high energy usage as most products create a substantial amount of air resistance requiring additional energy to cool buildings.
