At the prestigious MBW A&R Awards, Warner Chappell Music UK was named Publisher of the Year; Atlantic Records UK’s Co-Head of A&R, Alec Boateng, won Hip-Hop/Grime A&R of the Year and Warner Music UK’s Grace Goddard collected the A&R Administrator award.

Warner Chappell Music’s accolade comes after a strong 12 months for the publisher, which has topped the UK charts with Dave, Foals, Liam Gallagher and Stormzy, while bolstering its roster by signing the likes of Afro B, Au/Ra, Bernard Butler, Celeste, Julian Cope, John Power, Lostboy, Monique Lawz and Winnie Raeder.

Mike Smith, Managing Director of Warner Chappell Music UK, says: “The whole team is buzzing that we’ve been recognized in such a way. We’re so lucky and privileged to work with some of the most incredible writers in the business and to have the support of our colleagues around the world as we bring their music to the global stage.”

Having previously helped guide the Atlantic A&R team to two consecutive Team of the Year awards, Alec Boateng was crowned Hip-Hop/Grime A&R of the Year last night. He has played an instrumental role in an incredible year for Stormzy, which has seen him score his first and second number ones, break streaming records and put on an historic Glastonbury headline performance.

Boateng says: “I’m delighted to have picked up this award and to be recognized in this way. Every day I get to work with our incredible artists and to have a hand in creating music that really matters to people – I feel incredibly lucky and never take it for granted. I’d also like to thank the rest of the brilliant Atlantic A&R team for all their hard work and support.”

Grace Goddard, Warner Music UK’s A&R Coordination Manager, received the A&R Administrator award in recognition for her work across Atlantic Records, Parlophone Records and Warner Records and their broad array of artists. Over the last year she has been integral in the making of albums such as Foals’ Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1 & 2, Rita Ora’s Phoenix, Rudimental’s Toast To Our Differences, Charli XCX’s Charli and the record breaking No.6 Collaborations Project from Ed Sheeran.

Goddard says: “I’m so happy to have won this award! I love being part of the record making process and it’s a dream come true to work on so many amazing albums. It’s a real honour to be named amongst so many talented executives.”

The A&R Awards were created by Music Business Worldwide, in association with Abbey Road Studios, to celebrate the best creative executive talents working throughout the UK music business.
