Stephen Pincock has been named as the new VP Magazines and Editorial at Springer Nature. In this role, Stephen will have publishing responsibility for leading scientific journal Nature and Scientific American, the oldest continuously published magazine in the US and the leading authoritative publication for science and technology in the general media.

“High-quality science journalism is an incredibly important part of what we do at Springer Nature. As science grows in complexity and diversity, both researchers and the educated public increasingly need the guidance and orientation that our magazine content offers,” says Dean Sanderson, Managing Director, Magazines and Research Services. “With Stephen Pincock at the helm, we’ve put responsibility for that important content in the hands of a deeply committed science journalist with experience leading teams on three continents.”

“The need for incisive and inspiring science journalism has never been greater, and the magazines portfolio at Springer Nature leads the world in reporting on this vital driver of human prosperity,” says Stephen Pincock. “I’m honoured to succeed Mariette DiChristina in this role, and ready to get to work.”

Stephen first joined the company in 2014 as Managing Editor, Custom Publishing, for the Asia Pacific region, and took on responsibility for the global Custom and Partnership Editorial team in late 2015.  In that position, Stephen worked closely with stakeholders in editorial, sales and marketing to successfully build a global, multi-lingual team that delivers a broad range of content types, from Nature Careers editorial and Nature Outlooks to Branded Content and Custom Publishing.

Before joining the company, Stephen had a long track record in science and health journalism.  From 2008 to 2014, Stephen led a team of journalists and editors as co-editor of the Australian Doctor, a weekly magazine and website for physicians.  Prior to that, he published science books, was executive editor of Reuters Health, was news editor of The Scientist, frequently contributed to The Lancet and was a weekly science columnist for the Financial Times.
