"Horizon Services takes pride in supporting our local heroes," says Greg Thompson, Delaware Operations Manager for Horizon Services. "Hometown Heroes reminds locals that no matter the size of your area, there’s always a hero around who deserves to be recognized."

Horizon Services, a local leader in residential heating, cooling, and plumbing service, partnered with Delaware radio station WDSD to recognize local military personnel throughout September. Hometown Heroes is a program that recognizes those who have served in the United States armed forces.

“Horizon Services takes pride in supporting our local heroes,” says Greg Thompson, Delaware Operations Manager for Horizon Services. “Hometown Heroes reminds locals that no matter the size of your area, there’s always a hero around who deserves to be recognized.”

In September, three veterans were recognized for their service and continued support of others who have served our country.

Mitch Gage was the first Hometown Hero honoree. Gage served in the Air National Guard for thirty-two years as a Crash Rescue Technician. During his career, he was known as “Radar O’Reilly” for his work ethic and strong will. Today, Gage continues honors veterans by participating in tribute missions, the patriot guard, veteran organizations, and veteran funerals.

The second week of Hometown Heroes honored Nathaniel Robinson. Nominated by his wife, Daina, Robinson proudly served in the Air Force Reserves. Today, the Wilmington father of three boys is a Youth Leader for his church and an active member of his community.

Ron Elliot, a veteran of the 82 Airborne in Vietnam and the Dominican Republic conflict, received the program’s final September spotlight. Elliot’s continuing mission honors deceased veterans by transporting their remains to their final resting place in his own specially-designed truck. To-date, Elliot has logged over half a million miles traveling to military cemeteries, including Arlington National Cemetery.

“94.7 WDSD is honored to serve a community filled with men and women so incredibly dedicated to our Country, our community and each other,” comments Brit Goldstein, Area President iHeartMedia DE. “We are proud to partner with Horizon Services and their ’Hometown Heroes’ in honoring these brave and courageous men and women. They deserve our thanks each and every day.”

Throughout its 30-plus year history, Horizon Services has actively supported United States military veterans. The home services leader offers preferred consideration for service members transitioning from the military, as well as training opportunities, plus ongoing support for employees who actively serve. In 2019, Horizon’s team was honored by the Department of Defense for supporting active members of the National Guard.
