Frank Heelan offers Easter reflections inspired by the Stations of the Risen Christ

While there is much to meditate on the crucifixion and resurrection accounts in the Gospels, little emphasis has been given to the events after Easter. For Christian author Frank Heelan, these events are also worthy of meditation and reflection, so he published a book “Stations of the Risen Christ: Easter Reflections” (Lifevest Publishing; 2007).
 
In his article for ReadersMagnet Authors’ Lounge, the author wrote:
 
While Christians pray the Stations of the Cross during Lent, there needs to be available for Christians during the Easter season a memorialization of Christ’s Resurrection from the dead, his many appearances to his disciples culminating in his Ascension into heaven, and the sending of the Holy Spirit to guide his disciples and Church.
 
For that purpose, Heelan wrote the “Stations of the Risen Christ,” which is meant to inspire people to pray and meditate on the Scriptural passages relating to Christ rising from the dead and his subsequent appearances to over 500 disciples.
 
The book captures fourteen vignettes from the Gospel writings of John, Luke, and Matthew. A brief meditation follows each of the fourteen Scripture readings to motivate Christians to pray and acquire a deeper understanding of these divine mysteries. “For centuries, Christians have devoutly prayed the Stations of the Cross,” said Heelan, “to commemorate the suffering and death of Jesus on the cross and to remind us that we also have a share in Christ’s suffering through our daily lives.
 
“But life does not end with the cross of Christ. It is his Resurrection from the dead and his promise that we also will rise from the dead and receive a resurrected body. It is this hope of what is to come that served as motivation to write the “Stations of the Risen Christ” that would be anchored in the Scriptural passages of the evangelists.”

Frank Heelan grew up in the Elmhurst, Queens County section of New York City. He attended Xavier High School in Manhattan and earned a baccalaureate from Fordham University, a master s degree from NYU, and a doctorate from Columbia University. He was a history teacher at Power Memorial High School in New York City and at Dobbs Ferry High School in Westchester County. For more than 25 years, Frank Heelan served as superintendent for Tuxedo Park School District in New York State and Manville School District in New Jersey. Ecstatically married to his wife, Ann, they have been blessed with four accomplished children and eleven loving grandchildren.
