The masterclass given by the visual effects artist Lucía Peralta (Aquaman, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The Jungle Book and Game of Thrones) will be part of the Zinemaldia & Technology programme. The head of the environment and DMP (Digital Matte Paintings) team at Deluxe Spain, accompanied by Curro Muñoz, supervisor of the special effects department, will participate in the second edition of the initiative, to take place on Sunday September 22 in Tabakalera.

As a new feature, this year will include the presentation of the Zinemaldia Startup Challenge competition award. The five finalist projects will present their projects at the event: FlowCut, an augmented reality project developed by the entrepreneurs settled in Bizkaia, Elbio Nielsen and Fernando Chiarri; LargoAI, an artificial intelligence project promoted by a Swiss startup; Shield by Brave, a project also falling within the artificial intelligence field by a company from Alava; Scenso.tv, a blockchain application for audiovisual management produced by a French company; and Volograms, an innovative proposal by an Irish firm for generating augmented reality and virtual reality content.

The jury, made up of Pedro Muñoz-Baroja (Easo Ventures), Vanessa Ruiz-Larrea (Deluxe Spain) and Thierry Baujard (Media Deals), will, at the end of the event, announce the winner to receive a prize of 10,000 euros (gross). The five finalists will also have the opportunity to work at an incubation space for a year at one of the BICs (Business Innovation Centers) in the Basque Technology Park Network, as well as access to funding of up to 500,000 euros to develop their projects.

As well as the masterclass, the pitchings by the five finalist projects and presentation of the award, the event will include four company presentations and demonstrations: 2deo (Anaitz Goia, 2deo-Tabakalera and Jose Mari Rivero and Belén Moneo, from Gosho); Artificial Vision (Aritz Víllodas from Tecnalia and Mónica Calvo and Lucía Fierro from Alegría Activity); Pixel Level Product Placement (Mikel Zorrilla from Vicomtech and Xabi Zabaleta from Pausoka); and Virtual Reality (Pablo Aguirrezabal from Tecnalia and  Ricardo Ramón González and Jone Landaluze from Dibulitoon).

The Basque Government, through its Department of Economic Development and Infrastructures, promotes the Zinemaldia Startup Challenge, the central initiative of the second edition of this activity, organised by the San Sebastian Festival, Tecnalia, Tabakalera (through its 2deo audiovisual lab) and Petronor and enjoys the collaboration of the applied research centre, Vicomtech.
