“Mariachi Girl” to be performed at CSU Bakersfield for Hispanic Heritage Month

Following up the successful production of “El Bracero,” ÁNIMO Theatre Company will be staging the hit musical “Mariachi Girl” at CSU Bakersfield at the Doré Theatre on September 13, 2018, 8:00 p.m. as part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.

“Mariachi Girl” is written by Roxanne Schroeder-Arce with music and lyrics by Héctor Martínez Morales. The bilingual musical follows a young girl’s dream of following in her father’s footsteps to become a Mariachi, but runs counter to his traditional, patriarchal roots.  Told through the eyes of a young girl, the musical explores cultural stereotypes and assimilation in the United States.  It is a heartwarming story that celebrates cultural identity and promotes a positive self-image for young women.

The musical stars Estefani Lopez, a young artist who showcased her talents on Telemundo’s La Voz-Kids and Estrella TV’s Tengo Talento and features music by Mariachi Aguilas de J. Carlos Ozuna - one of the top mariachi ensembles in Southern California.
