Red Deer, Alberta, Canada – WEBWIRE

Filled with strange characters with mysterious backgrounds, an ever-evolving investigation which will keep readers on the edge of their seat and an even pace, this is a novel not to miss. If you enjoy good murder-mysteries, then be sure to add R.L. Bowden’s novel Maddy’s Place on your list of books to read today! - Pacific Book Review

“Maddy’s Place” written by R.L. Bowden, showcases a murder-mystery thriller that is unlike what is usually encountered in this fiction genre. For one, the victim is a celebrated bowler, a brand of athleticism that is often overlooked. Second, our hero’s arrival at the pinnacle of his profession didn’t happen because of gallantry, but rather, of necessity. Lastly, the story is a touching juxtaposition between our hero-protagonist and murder victim.

The story begins when newly-promoted Chief Homicide Detective Jack Diamonds was awoken by the rude ringing of his house phone. He is summoned to the house of Biff Bowers, a famous bowler associated with celebrities, politicians, and the White House in his over fifty years of bowling career.

The author’s storytelling vividly transports you into his world of solving crimes – from the moment our detective wakes up, to the crime scene where he surveys for evidence and motive. The story pacing is quick, detailed, and full of characterizations that elicit a chuckle or two.

Our hero, Detective Jack Diamonds, must work with the unexpected Lydia, the victim’s personal biographer. Together, they are led to explore Maddy’s Place, a home for wayward girls that the victim, Bower, had frequented during his turbulent youth times. Bower had his fair share of sex, drugs and everything in between, but the discovery of his vulnerability shook things up. Maddy’s Place is bursting with his influences, along with the truths of the people around him that holds devastating clues to his demise.

Written with warmth and love for the suspense of mystery thrillers, R.L. Bowden has created a masterpiece that is hard to put down.

“Maddy’s Place” will be displayed in the upcoming Word on the Street, the biggest literary events in Canada this year on June 9 in Saskatoon, September 14 in Halifax, on September 21 in Lethbridge, and lastly on September 22 in Toronto. Grab a copy of his book at Amazon and your favorite online book retailers.
