Triple glory for Dunlop Geomax motocross stars

• Eli Tomac wins AMA Pro Motocross Championship

• Courtney Duncan dominates WMX Imola

It was a sensational Summer weekend for Dunlop’s elite motocross riders. Three major wins on both sides of the Atlantic were clinched on Dunlop Geomax tyres.

In the top North American category, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac dominated round 11 of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Budds Creek. He took wins in both races to take the overall victory and annex his third-successive top-class title using Dunlop’s off-road Geomax range.

At Imola, Italy, the Women’s World Motocross Championship (WMX) and the FIM World Motocross Championship (MXGP) outright wins both went to riders using Dunlop’s Geomax MX33 tyres.

In WMX, Courtney Duncan won both races to extend her lead in the championship with just the Turkish Grand Prix remaining on September 8th. The New Zealander stamped her authority on the event from the outset by setting the fastest time in practice by more than two seconds. She recovered from an incident in the early stages of the race to close on the leader by more than two seconds a lap. She surged into the lead to confirm her status as the title favourite, riding her Bike It DRT Kawasaki to a stunning victory. She repeated the result in race two with a more straightforward run to a clear win.

In MXGP, Glenn Coldenhoff was the pacesetter in both races. The Dutch star, riding for the Standing Construct KTM team, reigned supreme to win for the first time in over three years. He won both Imola races to take the overall victory. His win highlights Standing Construct KTM as the ‘in-form’ team at this stage of the season following a win by team-mate Max Anstie in one of the heats at the Belgian GP earlier this month.

Standing Construct KTM made the switch to Dunlop after extensive back-to-back testing in the off-season and made a long-term commitment to Dunlop. Coldenhoff (and Duncan) both used Dunlop’s latest Geomax MX33 tyres. The MX33 is an intermediate-to-soft terrain tyre and has been proven to have both lasting performance and durability at World Championship level this season.

The traction of the Dunlop Geomax MX33 was underlined with both ‘Holeshots’ (for the fastest start) going to Dunlop riders. Arnaud Tonus took the prize in race 1 on his Wilvo Racing Yamaha and Coldenhoff took the Holeshot in race 2.

The next round of the FIM World Motocross Championship is in Uddevalla, Sweden next weekend.
