America has long been formidable due to its economy, its international alliances, and sheer number of military bases. Historian and journalist James F. Dunn chronicles the country’s ascent in “The United States of Empire.”

Prior to the First and Second World Wars, the United States was still finding its footing in the global stage, as European countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany were expanding their territories. It was only until after its involvement in the two conflicts and its military participation in the following years did the United States start on its path to global dominance.

Through his background in military history and extensive research, Dunn aims to educate about the country’s origins. Amazon customer Michael Phelps commended the historian for shedding light on other topics, such as America’s view of Europe following World War I.

Beginning in the twentieth century, “The United States of Empire” documents America’s growth as a superpower. The book was displayed in LitFire Publishing’s booth at the ALA Midwinter Meeting and Exhibits 2019. The event was held at the Washington State Convention Center, Seattle from January 25 to 29, 2019.

James F. Dunn is a journalist and historian whose works have been widely circulated. The University of Rhode Island graduate and former marathoner earned his master’s degree in military history from Norwich University. Dunn also works as a radio talk show host.
