Millennia-Old Artifact Relived in an Astounding New Book

Shijing is a classic collection of ancient Chinese literature dating back from the 11th to the 7th century BC. Author Sen Du and his partner Chen Zhong gathered hundreds of poems from this mythical book and translated them religiously in “108 Chinese Poems from ShiJing: 108 Chinese Ancient Quatrains before 77BC.”
 
Aside from Shijing, 108 poems were also curated from another period, bearing a different form of poetry called Jueju, or Chinese quatrains, that later became the popular form of verse writing during the Tang Dynasty.
 
The texts in the book are written in three languages—Chinese, English, and French. And the ancient writing style is preserved as much as possible so each anecdote takes you back to life in ancient China.
 
Much of Sen Du’s intention for writing this book is for people to realize that looking back at the past can sometimes contribute to a civilization’s progress. “Men need to look back for learning more from the past,” he says. By studying the past, we can avoid repeating its tragedies and finally make progress for the future.
