A gothic tale of a beautiful young girl in a haunted land of Civil War and slavery!

“Go Ask the Dead” (ReadersMagnet; 2019) by Frank Tropea dazzles as a suspense-filled, enthralling paranormal read; a page-turner in the true sense of the word. The book tells the gothic tale of a beautiful young girl in a haunted land of Civil War and slavery.

The author himself is a paranormal enthusiast – and he loves to write too. During his guesting in the program This Week in America with Ric Bratton, he said: “Since I was a little kid, when Halloween was always more important to me than Christmas, I’ve always been intrigued by the paranormal, by the possibility of ghost hauntings, poltergeist activity, things of that nature. I’ve always been intrigued and later on in my adult years, I studied the paranormal.”

In writing “Go Ask the Dead,” Tropea took his background in the paranormal and tie it with a Civil War battle, that of the Battle of Gettysburg. The paranormal thriller tells of a love affair going dangerously wrong between Amanda Mannon, a psychic girl, and William, a young handsome Confederate officer who was one of the thousands killed in Gettysburg. Amanda was born into a psychic, haunted family, which included an aunt who is a practicing witch and medium, and an uncle who can see the dead.

Amanda doesn’t know who her father is; her mother, Aurelia, emotionally neglected her and shut her aside. She is raised by Delia, a black cook and general maid. Ted Basker, a handsome corporate lawyer, become her stepfather… and later the very person who murdered her mother, he who would attempt to murder Amanda. Months after killing Ted in self-defense, she is sent to live with Lavinia Mannon, a devout Catholic great-aunt who despises the occult.

Because she can see and talk to the dead, Amanda engages in a long-term affair with the ghost William but the paranormal romance is no bed of roses as she suffers abuse from William. She turns to Craig, her ex-husband who still loves her, for help. What then becomes of Amanda and Craig? Will she be able to escape her haunted heritage?
