LA Testing is proud to announce that its Huntington Beach laboratory is now accredited by CA-ELAP for PCB Analysis.

Huntington Beach, CA – WEBWIRE

LA Testing is proud to announce that its Huntington Beach, California location has added polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in Caulking (Solids) to its list of accreditations through the California State Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (CA-ELAP). Along with the accreditation for NIOSH 5503 - PCBs in Air by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA-LAP, LLC), LA Testing’s Huntington Beach laboratory can now conduct the analysis of semi-volatile organic chemistry of hazardous waste via GC/ECD of PCBs in Solids (Caulking, Paint Chips, Mastics, Concrete) by the US EPA SW 846 Method 8082.

PCBs were used as an additive in some caulks in the past due to their water and chemical resistance, durability and elasticity. The chemical compounds were also used in other building materials such as paints, mastics, sealants, adhesives, specialty coatings and fluorescent light ballasts. While PCBs were banned in the United States in 1979, they can persist in old materials and contaminate surfaces, dust, soil and the indoor air quality (IAQ) of structures. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PCBs have been shown to cause cancer and numerous other serious health effects in animals.

“PCBs have no known taste or smell, and range in consistency,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “The best way to identify the presence of PCBs is through laboratory testing. Our Huntington Beach laboratory is now equipped to handle PCBs analysis no matter how large or small the project for local clients and customers in surrounding states.”

In addition to testing PCBs, the Huntington Beach laboratory is accredited by the AIHA-LAP, LLC Environmental Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELLAP), Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program (EMLAP) and Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Accreditation Program (IHLAP). Click here to view a copy of the AIHA-LAP, LLC IHLAP – Accreditation of PCBs by NIOSH 5503 in Air. The location is an AIHA-LAP, LLC participant in the Environmental Lead Proficiency Analytical Testing Program (ELPAT) for lead testing in paint chips, soil, dust wipes and air. The laboratory is also an AIHA-LAP, LLC participant in the Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing Program (EMPAT) for fungi as well as the Industrial Hygiene Proficiency Analytical Testing Program (IHPAT) for asbestos, metals, silica, organics, formaldehyde and beryllium analysis.

The laboratory is also certified by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for air and bulk asbestos analysis. The Huntington Beach laboratory holds a state certification for Hawaii in analysis of bulk asbestos. It’s also one of the 21 laboratory locations in EMSL Analytical, Inc.’s network certified for Legionella testing by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ELITE Program.

The laboratory is located at 5431 Industrial Drive in Huntington Beach and can be reached directly by calling (714) 828-4999. To learn more about LA Testing’s services and locations, please visit www.LATesting.com, email  info@LATesting.com  or call (800) 755-1794.
