Vision at Pat Bayly Square Wins 2019 Rental Development of the Year

IBI-designed Vision at Pat Bayly Square in Ajax was recently recognized by the Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations (CFAA), winning 2019 Rental Development of the Year High-Rise as part of the CFAA National Rental Housing Awards Program. The CFAA National Awards program recognizes excellence and notable achievements of Landlords, Suppliers and Landlord Associations in the rental housing industry.

Vision at Pat Bayly Square is the first of six buildings coming to the new urban centre in downtown Ajax. Totalling 1,800 units at the corner of Harwood and Bayly, Pat Bayly Square is currently the largest development site in the Durham region. The multi-use development will be implemented in three phases over seven years, with Phase One consisting of two 25-storey rental buildings with 600 units, office and retail space, and a civic center at its base.

Inspiration for the design came from the incredibly rich history of Ajax during the Second World War, with subtle patterns in the building facades reflecting the coding patterns found in a Rockex machine – a one-time tape cipher machine used by Canadian and British troops starting in 1943, invented by Canadian electrical engineer and the first mayor of Ajax, Pat Bayly.

This is the third time an IBI Group project has received this annual award, with The Maple in Halifax winning 2018 Rental Development of the Year, and The Heathview in Toronto winning 2016 Rental Development of the Year.
