Supernatural-thriller Writer Pens a Terror-Tale that Sure to Haunt Readers

Omid Olfet invites you to a petrifying story of a young boy and his paranormal doll—a lifeless body, but a familiar fear that chills up the spine.

Red Deer, Alberta, Canada – WEBWIRE

D like Doll, E like Evil” is a terrifying page-turner novella about John, a young boy’s life journey alongside with his mysterious doll. After his parents got separated, he ended up with his dad and cruel stepmother, Sara. The doll was the only thing he had to remember by to fill the void his mother left. As the story unfolds, we soon discover the doll’s haunted history. The year was 1400s and the doll belonged to a witch who was condemned to death by burning her body. Tragic and wicked, it’s certain that the doll was not a simple child’s toy.

As if John’s life isn’t distressing enough, Sara continued to resent him and even tried to snatch his special doll. And for some uncertain reason, John can’t muttered a single word. But once he tried to talk, the words make no sense. Throughout the story, John’s hatred to his stepmother began to grow more. Eventually, Sara succeeded and caused the young boy to channel his anger to the doll. The story ends with more questions than answers, as if the author wants us to linger on the final act with still silence. An ending that could hiss in the mind and looms long in the cold night.

Surprisingly twisted and dark, Olfet’s craft is a good old-fashioned, twilight zone horror that one can read with pleasure and dread. Into the pages, he somehow summoned a supernatural force of evil that effectively ties with the young boy’s struggle. It’s an interesting book that straddles the lines between family relationship, suspense, and—of course—horror. Overall, the effect is unsettling or too maddening, but can be well worth a read.

The book, “D Like Doll, E Like Evil,” will be scheduled to display at the upcoming Canada’s most renowned literary fair, The Word on the Street Book Fair on September 16, 14, 21, and 22, 2019.
