Converse Celebrates the Origins of Pride Around the World

The Stonewall Riots of June 28, 1969, served as the turning point for gay and LGBTQ+ rights in New York City and subsequently around the world. Fifty years later, the event remains a symbol of powerful social progress driven by the community — motivating generations that followed to continue to fight for further positive change. 

This year’s annual Converse Pride collection (originally born out of the brand’s LGBTQ+ employee network in 2015) celebrates the significance, cultural impact and bravery of Stonewall and the origins of Pride, while standing strong with the trans community today.

A Chuck Taylor, Chuck 70 and accompanying apparel capsule carry a loud, proud, assertion of self-expression through a bolt design and lots of glam glitter, including the brand’s first-ever sneakers inspired by the trans flag. The full collection aims to celebrate all individuals and pay respect to the rebels and heroes who continue to pave the way.

All shoes feature lace tips inspired by the Pride or Trans flag, “1969–2019” printed on the back of the tongue as a nod to Pride’s 50th anniversary, heel and side bumper details.

The apparel and accessories cleverly interprets the Pride flag through a graphic design inspired by the late 60s and early 70s.

The 2019 Converse Pride collection will be available globally beginning in North America on converse.com and at select retailers.
