Zephyr Power Wind Farm Starts Operations in Pakistan

WEBWIRE

The Zephyr Power wind farm in Pakistan is now operational. The renewable energy plant will provide 50MW of power to thousands of people and businesses in the country. Mott MacDonald acted as lenders’ environmental and social advisor on behalf of the UK government’s development finance institution, CDC Group.

The plant will play an important role in helping to boost the country’s power supply by providing an additional source of clean, renewable energy. In Pakistan, the energy demand exceeds current capacity and is reliant on fossil fuels.

Mott MacDonald delivered environmental and social due diligence to help the project achieve financing. Following financial close, the consultancy continued its role by performing environmental and social monitoring throughout the construction phase.

Marianne Brownlee, Mott MacDonald’s project manager, said: “We’re delighted that the project is now in operation. It will bring more clean energy to Pakistan and will support the country’s objectives of increasing electricity supply from renewables.”

The operations milestone was celebrated at an inauguration ceremony in Gharo, Sindh.
