“The Helium Table” by E. Dorinda Shelley basks as a whimsical farm-to-space storybook

Anyone who has enjoyed E. Dorinda Shelley’s other children’s books will surely find “The Helium Table” to be equally hilarious. A farm-to-space adventure involves the animals at the barn owned by the family of a young girl named Kath, the narrator of the story.
 
Illustrated by Eleanor A. Hutton, “The Helium Table” establishes the series, with the phenomenon of strange floating objects. When Kath’s mother cleans off an unused dining room table, covered for years by junk mail, books and newspapers, it floats through the door and outside into the sky, with the animals on top of it.
 
BlueInk Review, an independent book review publication, recently reviewed “The Helium Table,” describing it as a “largely entertaining” children’s book that “presents a light and refreshing premise,” abounding in “colorful and dreamlike” artwork. However, BlueInk Review found areas for improvement, including the inconsistent illustrations.
 
BlueInk Review concluded, “Children will especially appreciate the story’s whimsical nature.”

About the Author
Dr. Shelley is a retired dermatologist. She grew up in Missouri, spending weekends on a farm with friendly horses. She, her husband, and three children lived for many years on a “farmette” in NW Ohio, surrounded by many of the animals in this story. This is the first in a series of books she has written and Eleanor Hutton has illustrated.
