Blue Car Rental invited the luckiest unlucky person to Iceland

Recently, Blue Car Rental had a competition under the hashtag #FeelingBlue. The plan was to allow people to send their unlucky stories as video entries and explain why they deserve a trip to Iceland. The unluckiest participant was chosen to come to Iceland for an epic adventure. Of course, this was all in good fun and participants were encouraged to show the humorous side of their misfortune.

Þorsteinn Þorsteinsson, Blue Car Rental’s CEO, says the contest was a very entertaining and successful experiment. “People tend to link the term “feeling blue” with something negative, so we thought we’d try to change that into something more positive. Our attempt was very successful, and the winner who came to Iceland was ecstatic, naturally…”

#FeelingBlue gathered a lot of attention all over the world, and Blue Car Rental received many good video entries from unlucky people telling their story, most of them pretty hilarious. But none of them were as heartwarming and wonderful as the winner’s, Liz Connor from Nashville, Tennessee. The judges for the #FeelingBlue contest eventually chose Liz as the luckiest unlucky person after sending in a video featuring her coworkers in the school she works at.

Liz, who is a school teacher, told about her terribly unlucky streak that never seemed to end. Her sweet and funny story included tripping in the same puddle at school three times, injuring herself each time, and breaking a tooth while eating a shrimp cocktail on a cruise ship, where she was supposed to be relaxing and recovering from her injuries.

Liz was absolutely stunned and ecstatic when she learned she was chosen as a winner and was heading to Iceland for the trip of her lifetime with Blue Car Rental. Liz and her son came in late autumn and got the royal treatment in Iceland. They went all over the country, saw the most wonderful natural wonders and were surprised with thrilling tours, like ATV rides and a RIB-boat ride in Reykjavík harbor.

The trip was a complete success, and most importantly, Liz no longer regards herself as an unlucky person. We strongly recommend watching the video of Liz’s whole journey.
