M25M Is Responding to Deadly Tornadoes That Swept Through Alabama and Georgia on Sunday

Unexpected Tornadoes Erupted Through the South, Killing at Least 23 People

Cincinnati, OH – WEBWIRE

Tornado Season is March through June and has opened with deadly force just three days into the 2019 season. Matthew 25: Ministries, a humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization headquartered in Cincinnati, OH, is responding to deadly tornadoes that swept through Alabama and Georgia on Sunday, March 3. At least a dozen tornadoes reportedly touched down in Alabama and Georgia on Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The tornadoes produced massive damage across a large area approximately 1 mile wide and 30 miles long.

The powerful tornadoes that tore through Lee County in Alabama killed at least 23 people and left a path of destruction that looked “as if someone had taken a blade and just scraped the ground,” said the Lee County Sheriff. The NWS listed damage from the tornadoes as high as EF-4, which means the damage was severe, with winds as high as 170 miles per hour.  The 23 deaths reported from Sunday’s event mark the deadliest day for tornadoes in Alabama since the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham tornado in 2011. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey extended last month’s state of emergency due to tornadoes and severe weather to include Sunday’s devastating tornadoes.

Matthew 25: Ministries’ Disaster Response Team will be departing on Tuesday, March 5 at 8:00 AM for Alabama with a selection of Matthew 25’s Disaster Response vehicles.  The response fleet will include customized pick-up trucks, co-branded, customized panel trucks loaded with supplies such as P&G personal care kits, household and cleaning products, Cintas first aid and safety kits and supplies, and additional items such as Pampers diapers, Charmin toilet paper, Tide Pods, fans, generators and tarps. The team will distribute aid to affected communities and meet with partners to discuss long-term distribution possibilities.

Matthew 25 will also be sending a semi of aid to partners in the affected area. The shipment will be filled with products such as personal care items, paper towels, toilet paper, facial tissues, diapers and batteries.
