RELX Group announced today that Danny Marti, Head of Global Government Affairs, has been elected Vice Chairman of the US Chamber of Commerce’s Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC). In this role, Marti will help lead GIPC’s efforts and engagements in the US and around the world to develop and promote strong innovation policy and intellectual property standards that advance global economic interests and generate breakthrough solutions to global challenges.

Marti joined RELX Group in 2017 and leads the company’s policy engagements across a broad range of public policy issues, including science and innovation policy; privacy and data management; trade; and intellectual property. RELX Group was named by Forbes as one of the World’s 100 Most Innovative Companies in 2018.

Prior to RELX Group, Marti served as a senior White House official in the Obama Administration. Nominated by President Obama in 2014 to serve as the Nation’s Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator, a position colloquially referred to as the “White House IP Czar,” Marti was confirmed 92-0 by the United States Senate, and sworn into office by Vice President Biden. Marti served as the Chairman of the US Interagency Strategic Planning Committee on IP Enforcement that produced the White House-released “Joint Strategic Plan on Intellectual Property Enforcement” for FY 2017-2019.

“As our nation’s chief IP enforcement official under President Obama, and in his current leadership role at one of the most innovative global information companies, Danny consistently champions innovation, creativity and intellectual property,” said David Hirschmann, President and CEO of the Global Innovation Policy Center. “We are thrilled to welcome Danny Marti as Vice Chair of GIPC’s board and we look forward to working with him in this new role.”

Marti said: “I am honored to join GIPC’s Board of Directors and look forward to working with the outstanding team at the US Chamber to champion creativity, innovation, and enterprise, and to support a healthy and robust intellectual property enforcement policy environment. Creativity and innovation play an extraordinarily important role in our cultural and economic lives, and the GIPC’s work in this field has been instrumental in supporting new and improved innovation, encouraging investment and commercialization, and in helping to advance the spread of knowledge globally.”

Marti was the recipient of GIPC’s 2016 “IP Champions Award” for his leadership in advancing IP interests through advocacy and public service. Marti has been recognized by way of a number of additional honors, including being named by Emory Law as one of its Centennial 100 alumni honorees for his contributions to the law school and the world at large through advancing the “rule of law,” and he was recognized as one of the “25 most influential Hispanic attorneys in the country” by Latino Leaders magazine.

Mr. Marti is a graduate of Georgetown University (BA) and Emory University School of Law (JD).
