Dean R. Eyerly bares the ‘earthly,’ ‘historical’ Jesus

An Ohio-based author published a book to discuss who Jesus of Nazareth is according to his family, friends, disciples, and other contemporaries.

A book that extols Jesus as an earthly being, a human, with flesh and blood like than of any other human

It has been the mission of Dean R. Eyerly to discover – or rediscover – the flesh and blood Jesus, who, in the eyes of his contemporaries, was a teacher of wisdom, a Galilean Jew, and, above all, a human just like them. Eyerly has published five books on the subject so far, one of which is “Jesus of Nazareth: A Man of His Time” (ReadersMagnet; 2018).

The book is aptly titled since the aim of the author is to introduce or reintroduce the ‘earthly,’ ‘historical’ Jesus – the very Jesus whom the first Christians knew very well. To carry out the main purpose of his work, Eyerly knew well to not rely on the Gospel stories.

“The Gospel stories found in the New Testament give little information about Jesus’ earthly life,” said the author, “scarcely anything is mentioned before he reaches the age of 30 with those years being referred to by scholars as the ‘Missing Years of Jesus.’”

Instead, the author turned to non-canonical or gnostic texts that are deemed heretical or “not inspired by God” by most orthodox Christian scholars. For Eyerly, such writings cast light on the earthly aspects of Jesus’ life. “In the study of early Judaism and Christianity, scholars have discovered that a tremendous amount of credible information about Jesus is stored in a collection of sectarian writings called Pseudepigrapha which are non-canonical texts written for purposes other than the explanation of the religious law or the teaching of scripture.”

“Jesus of Nazareth” differentiates the Jesus as perceived by his contemporaries before his death on the cross and the Jesus preached by the Apostle Paul and the Christian orthodoxy of the second and third centuries. “One of the main elements in the study of the ‘historical’ Jesus is to recognize the fact that there is a significant difference between the ‘pre-Easter’ and ‘post-Easter’ Jesus with the former meaning the view people held for Jesus before the crucifixion as compared to what he became after the resurrection.”

The author will sure scandalize readers and send shock throughout Christendom with his treatise.

Watch out for the public display of Dean R. Eyerly’s “Jesus of Nazareth: A Man of His Time” will at the upcoming 2019 American Library Association Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits on January 25-28, 2019, in Seattle, WA.
