Michigan Testing Laboratory Adds CDC ELITE Certification for Legionella Testing

EMSL Analytical, Inc. is pleased to announce that its Plymouth, Michigan laboratory is now CDC ELITE proficient for Legionella analysis. EMSL is the leading Legionella testing laboratory with 21 CDC ELITE proficient locations throughout the United States and Canada.

“We’re proud of our EMSL Michigan location for receiving this CDC ELITE proficiency,” said Christopher Goulah, Ph.D., Legionella Technical Manager at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “EMSL offers a number of Legionella testing options including Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) testing for Legionella at its corporate headquarters. We are the only commercial testing laboratory in the U.S. that offers qPCR testing for L. pneumophila, L. pneumophila serotype 1 and Legionella spp. in one convenient test. We can also perform Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) for outbreak source investigations involving all species and serotypes of Legionella.”

In addition to Legionella testing, EMSL Michigan offers asbestos, microbiology and indoor air quality testing services. The laboratory is certified by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program (EMLAP) for mold testing of air, bulk and surface samples by culture or direct examination. EMSL Michigan is an AIHA Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing (EMPAT) participant for mold analysis.

The laboratory is AIHA-LAP, LLC certified for testing of environmental microbiology under the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELLAP). In addition, EMSL Michigan is accredited by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for bulk and airborne asbestos analysis.
