Cancer healing book by Sharon Jean Wiginton earns positive reviews

“Abounding Health Naturally” by Sharon Jean Wiginton was first published in 2010 under the now-defunct Tate Publishing and later republished this year under ReadersMagnet. In this book, the author shared how she overcame cancer by following biblical principles on diet and nutrition as dictated in the Book of Genesis: “And God said, See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the land and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food.”
 
In short, she recovered from cancer not by surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy but by adopting a diet of “real” foods – raw, living foods such as raw fruits and vegetables, nuts, and seeds. The author believed these living foods were created by God to be the perfect fuel for the living body.
 
“Abounding Health Naturally” has been well received by book review publications, although a few book reviewers did question her views on modern medicine and treatment. Nevertheless, they applauded the author for sticking to her principles of health and nutrition.
 
Writing for San Francisco Book Review, Stacia Levy rated the book three out of five, saying: “A lot of this book I would agree with: few would argue the importance of a good diet featuring fruits and vegetables. Also, few would argue the importance of exercise to health.”
 
Robin Goodfellow of Manhattan Book Review also gave the book three out of five marks: “The author has a good, holistic view of healthcare. By drawing on her own experiences, as well as the experiences of other patients, she is able to soundly argue about yet another way to be healthy. She uses biblical principles that combat a culture filled to the brim with fast food.”
 
Wayne Dworsky of Seattle Book Review awarded the book full five marks: “The book is bloated with a dazzling array of testimonials, most of which are contrary to standard medical practices but appear to yield positive results. This is not to say that many of the practices mentioned lack a place in natural medicine, but rather, they enhance the scope of Wiginton’s views on natural healing. It is more correct to say that an open mind may yield more avenues of opportunity.”
 
“Wiginton believes that the healthy foods that God has provided can cure or ameliorate major disease,” said the review from The US Review of Books. “She presents case studies of cancer patients being denied the right to refuse chemo or radiation therapies in favor of a raw food diet. She asserts that many doctors are in alignment with big pharmaceutical companies.”
 
Emily Martin of IndieReader thought the book could appeal to a certain crowd. “If ‘Abounding Health Naturally’ succeeds in reaching a population that might not have sought out nutrition-based solutions unless the message was couched in their own vernacular, then it may fill a gap and grow into its niche.”
