WWF Statement on the Fourth National Climate Assessment

WEBWIRE

In response to the release of the Fourth National Climate Assessment Vol. II, an authoritative assessment of the impacts of climate change on the U.S. and its territories, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released the following statement from Lou Leonard, senior vice president for climate change and energy:

“Any remaining debate on the reality of climate change is over. The Bush, Obama, and now Trump Administrations have all published reports showing the current and future impacts to the United States from climate change. Each report is increasingly dire.

“The National Climate Assessment is the most comprehensive and reliable review of the state of climate impacts in America. Respected American scientists from all over the nation created this report, pulling on their intimate knowledge of the communities where we live and the rivers, forests and farms our families rely on every day.

“This is the science behind what is painfully apparent in our backyards and on our news feeds. Our situation is only going to get worse until we unite across our divided country and face it together. The time for bold action is now. We have just a dozen years to cut emissions in half to head-off the most dangerous effects of climate change.

“We can do it. While climate change has global ramifications, some of today’s best solutions are coming from the local level. From mayors to governors to CEOs, local leaders are embracing clean energy and cutting pollution from their operations and their supply chains, helping fill the gap created by the current lack of federal leadership.”
