California Residents Warned to be on the Lookout for Recalled Rubber Toys Due to Lead Violations

LA Testing provides analytical services, sampling supplies and test kits to identify lead hazards from toys, paint, dust, food, liquid and soil samples.

Huntington Beach, CA – WEBWIRE

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently posted information about the recall of over 31,000 rubber critter toys that were purchased by consumers from catalogs and online stores from February 2017 through June of this year. These items were imported from China and the orange and yellow surface paint colors on the toys contain levels of lead that violate federal regulations.

According to the CPSC posting, “This recall involves all rubber critter toys sold in various colors and animal shapes including octopus, alligators, chickens, frogs, pigs, penguins and cows. The toys are primarily used to play physical education tossing games. They were sold individually and in sets ranging from two to 24 rubber critters.” Consumers are being advised to immediately take the recalled rubber critter toys away from children. This is important since young children, with their rapidly growing bodies, are one of the most vulnerable groups to lead exposure.

“Parents, teachers and administrators of places like daycare centers that may have purchased these toys need to be aware of this recall and take action to prevent children from playing with these toys,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager at LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “The CPSC states that with a few limited exceptions, all children’s products manufactured after August 14, 2011, must not contain more than 100 parts per million (ppm) of total lead content in accessible parts. To help prevent these types of lead exposure hazards from occurring in the first place, LA Testing offers comprehensive lead testing services to the public, toy manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors and regulatory agencies.”

LA Testing has even sponsored and educational video about potential lead hazards in children’s toys that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/ijgcxU7h280.
