DSM and Kyojunokai Group announce collaboration to provide nutritional services in the rehabilitation field

Tokyo, JP – WEBWIRE

Royal DSM, a global science-based company active in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living, and Saitama Kyojunokai a medical corporation association under Kyojunokai Group (KJK), a hospital group providing acute care and rehabilitation medical care, announced their collaboration on the development of new services in nutritional rehabilitation.

The collaboration, which commences on 13 November 2018, will be offered through DSM Japan K.K, a local entity of Royal DSM.

DSM provides nutritional solutions for the food and beverage, dietary supplements and the early-life and medical nutrition markets, with a parallel focus on solutions for the pharmaceutical industry for the use of vitamins, lipids (EPA, DHA) and carotenoids as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). Its fundamental purpose is to create brighter lives for all and keep the world’s growing population healthy by linking personal nutrition and health.

KJK is the leading rehabilitation hospital group in Japan, operating hospitals in the Kanto region, Kyushu region and Yamaguchi prefecture. KJK provides recovery and rehabilitation and focuses on improving the shortage of rehabilitation hospitals in the regions.

Through the new collaboration, the parties will develop health care services that deliver personalized advice optimized for each patient across all aspects of meals, exercise and nutrition. By combining knowledge and data on nutrition held by DSM with knowledge of medical treatment possessed by KJK, the parties will provide nutritional information to contribute to the early recovery of individual patients. The parties will start a pilot service from the first quarter of 2019 and aim to launch the commercial service during 2019 at Harajuku Rehabilitation Hospital, the flagship hospital of KJK group.

Japan has the most aging society in the world. The proportion of its population aged 65 or over reached 27.7% in 2017, and in 2025 this is predicted to exceed 30%1. At the same time, the number of workers supporting the medical expenses of elderly people in Japan is expected to decline in the future, highlighting the urgent task of tackling medical expenses in society as a whole.

The DSM and KJK collaboration will contribute to early recovery and prevention of diseases through the provision of appropriate nutrition information, as part of their broader aim to realize a dignified and healthy old age for the many elderly people in Japan.
