ZTE and China Mobile’s SPN Standard is started-up by the ITU-T SG15

Creating a New Technology System for Optical Transport Network

Shenzhen, China – WEBWIRE

ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, announced that the SPN (Slicing Packet network) technology, jointly proposed by ZTE, China Mobile and other vendors, namely G.mtn has been started up by the ITU-T SG15 meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Thereby, ITU-T SG15 initialized the standardization project, reaching a milestone for the international standardization of the new optical transport network technology and facilitating the deployment of 5G networks.
The SPN is an innovative technology proposed by ZTE and China Mobile for 5G transport. Compatible with the Ethernet ecosystem, the next-generation integrated transport network architecture based on the slicing Ethernet core features low latency, large bandwidth, ultra-high-precision synchronization, flexible management and control, and low cost.
At the ITU-T SG15 plenary session, Chinese operators, equipment vendors and research institutes are widely recognized for submitting dozens of proposals for 5G transport network technology solutions.

At the SG15 meeting, China Mobile took the lead to elaborate the SPN technology, persuading the industry experts that the SPN has advantages in technology forward-looking, 5G transport capability, key technical feasibility and industrialization. Therefore, the G.mtn standard initialization of the SPN forwarding plane technology was approved.

ZTE is a staunch supporter and active contributor to SPN technology research and development, standards promotion and commercial practice.

ZTE pioneered the 5G Flexhaul solution based on the FlexE innovative extension technology. The 5G Flexhaul solution supports fronthaul, midhaul and backhaul integrated transport scenarios, perfectly satisfying the slicing requirements of 5G transport networks to enable the unified networking of 3G/4G/5G.

The pioneering FlexE Channel has the industry’s lowest single-node forwarding latency of 0.5μs. To date, ZTE has completed phased tests in the 5G transport field along with operators from China and Spain.

The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is one of the three sectors of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) which is a United Nations specialized agency; it coordinates standards for telecommunications. ITU-T SG15 is a research group belonging to ITU-T that is responsible for the development of standards for Networks, Technologies and Infrastructures for Transport, Access and Home.
