Clark Seif Clark provides industrial hygiene and indoor air quality (IAQ) testing services to protect workers and the public from potential airborne hazards.

Chatsworth, CA – WEBWIRE

There are carcinogens that may be present in an indoor environment or at a worksite in the form of gases, dusts or fumes.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month begins tomorrow and runs the entire month of November. This month of recognition is acknowledged across the globe and is a time to raise awareness and engagement in the fight against lung cancer. It is also the ideal opportunity to educate the public and workers about things they can do to minimize their chances of getting the disease.

In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that more men and women die in this country from lung cancer than from any other type of cancer. This correlates to approximately 150,000 annual deaths and 200,000 people that are told they have lung cancer each year.

The CDC states that the most important thing a person can do to lower their lung cancer risk is to quit smoking and to avoid secondhand smoke. The second leading cause of lung cancer is radon, a naturally occurring gas that comes from the earth and can get trapped in homes and buildings. People can also be exposed to a number of other substances and chemical compounds at work or in the home that could increase their chances of developing lung cancer.

“There are carcinogens that may be present in an indoor environment or at a worksite in the form of gases, dusts or fumes,” said Zahid Iqbal, MPH, CIH and Technical Director at Clark Seif Clark (CSC). “Asbestos, arsenic, formaldehyde, diesel exhaust, and some forms of silica and chromium are just a few of these. At CSC, our industrial hygiene, building science and indoor air quality professionals have the tools and expertise to identify these and other airborne contaminants and known carcinogens. If testing identifies a hazard, our experts can help clients take the necessary steps to mitigate or eliminate exposure risks whether it’s in a home or at work.”

To support the efforts of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, CSC has sponsored an educational video about the disease and exposure risks that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/LV7zwQiwaCQ
