A panel of child development experts recognizes the experience that brings physical drawings of beloved characters to life on screen as the most outstanding and innovative product of the year

PALO ALTO, Calif. – WEBWIRE

When children create they set their imaginations loose on epic fairy tales and action-packed adventures that help shape their social and emotional development. Today, Osmo, the award-winning system that sparked a new category of seamless digital and hands-on play, announces the recognition of its work to inspire imaginations through drawing by the prestigious Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award 2018. In addition, Osmo releases Disney Princesses and Pixar’s The Incredibles titles alongside Mickey & Friends for the award-winning experience - Super Studio - so kids can see drawings come to life on iPads, iPhones and Amazon Fire tablets in stories featuring childhood’s most iconic characters.

“The Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award sets the standard for innovative toys and experiences as selected by child development experts,” notes Pramod Sharma, CEO and co-founder of Osmo. “Having all three titles of Super Studio receive such top-level recognition is a tremendous honor and validation of our approach to building a universe of hands-on fun and learning by bridging the digital and physical worlds in a way that encourages nutritious play.”

Drawing is a critical childhood activity linked to social and emotional development, according to research from the National Endowment for Arts. It’s also a way to access new worlds with beloved friends. Now, Osmo is bringing an even larger cast of characters to life. From Mickey Mouse to Mr. Incredible, from Cinderella to Donald Duck, kids have a chance to use creativity and to explore boundless avenues of make-believe fun.

Kids guide the story in Super Studio by supplying their favorite characters with real-world drawings that are “pulled” into the characters’ digital world by answering yes or no questions. The blend of hands-on, physical drawings and the story-telling power of a digital world boosts kids’ creativity as they help to shape the storyline with whatever they imagine belongs in the tale. As the story progresses, characters ask for tools, toys, scenery and snacks to bring into their world.

Osmo’s proprietary Reflective AI technology allows an iPad’s camera to “see” physical objects in front of it. This first of its kind technology gives kids a blank canvas to express themselves through narrative and by drawing their favorite characters.

Super Studio is suggested for kids ages 5 and up and is available as an add-on to existing Osmo sets for $19. Those new to Osmo can buy the Super Studio Kit that includes an Osmo iPad Base for $59.

Super Studio is the eleventh innovative experience to come to Osmo’s universe. Recently named one of the most innovative companies in 2017 by Fast Company, Osmo is now going beyond the iPad with the Osmo iPhone Base.
