Moet is the blind cat, who has gained an incredible following since appearing online in 2015, has announced her drive to promote animal welfare in Oman. Over three years, she has amassed more than 50,000 followers across her social media platforms and is using her ‘voice’ to raise much needed awareness across the Sultanate.

The star kitty went blind as a result of neglect, but was rescued and found a loving home where she and her two rescued sisters want for nothing. But for Moet, it’s about using her appealing image for good.

“I joined social media in 2015, starting with Twitter, and was surprised at how quickly I gained followers. Once I realised I had a critical mass, I knew that I had to use my popularity for something positive and to make a difference. After all, I had come from horrible circumstances and there are so many other cats and dogs in Oman that face hardship,” said Moet, through the voice of her ‘staff’ as she affectionately terms her. “My aim is to help the group of volunteers called Omani Paws, who work tirelessly to help rescue stray, injured or abandoned animals,” she added.

Not only are there many strays in Oman, which Moet contributes funds to, but there are a large numbers of abandoned or neglected pets, which Moet finds heart-breaking.

“We do everything we can to help, but people need to realise that owning a pet is for life and you should not adopt if you can’t then take your furry family member with you when you leave Oman. We are part of your family and we will not be OK if you leave us behind.”

Moet has both an online store, selling her own branded merchandise, as well as a special site for her 2019 calendar. Items ship worldwide and if you’re lucky enough, you can even win some of the exciting products in one of her giveaways, by following her on social media. All profits from sales of her items go directly to Omani Paws.
