Christie’s is pleased to announce the expansion of the Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art leadership team. After more than seventeen years with Christie’s, having led numerous world-record sales for Asia, Eric Chang, currently International Director, is appointed Chairman for Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art.

Eric is a renowned expert in the field of Asian Contemporary Art and has built a stellar reputation for bringing Asian art to the global art market. He has spearheaded many innovative, landmark sales including the first sale solely devoted to Asian Contemporary Art in 2004, and the market’s first evening sale in the category in 2008,” commented Francis Belin, Global Managing Director, Asian and World Art. “Beyond top clients in Asia, Eric is a trusted advisor to many international clients from Europe and America and has been instrumental in raising Christie’s profile for Asian modern and contemporary art amongst these demographics. The company’s leadership position in this category bears testament to his efforts and achievements.”

Under Eric’s leadership, Christie’s has achieved close to 100 world auction records for Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Southeast Asian artists including that for Zao Wou-ki’s 29.1.64, which realised HKD203m/ USD26m in 2017, a world record then for an oil painting by any Asian artist and Chu Teh-Chun’s Vertige Neigeux (Snowy Vertigo), which made a world record for the artist at HKD91.8m/ USD11.8m in 2016. Eric also launched The Contemporaries – a sale meticulously curated in 2017 which initiated the convergence of top Asian and Western masters in one auction event.

With Eric taking on a new role, Christie’s is pleased to announce the appointment of Evelyn Lin as Deputy Chairman, International Director and Head of Department of Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art, to further strengthen Christie’s capabilities in Asian contemporary art.

Evelyn joins us from Sotheby’s, where she has worked since 1998, serving as Head of the Contemporary Asian Art department from 2004-2017. Evelyn charted Sotheby’s first sale of contemporary Chinese art in 2004 and was also part of the core leadership team launching the remarkable evening sale of Modern and Contemporary Asian Art in 2008. Under Evelyn’s leadership, the auction house broke many auction records for the contemporary art division including that for Zeng Fan Zhi’s The Last Supper which realized HK180M/US$23M, a dual world record for a work of Contemporary Asian art as well as that for the artist, in 2013. The Ullens Collection led by Evelyn, offered in April and October 2011, also became the highest-value single-owner collection of Contemporary Chinese art ever sold with world auction records set for multiple artists. Evelyn will start in her role on 23th November 2018.

With the promotion of Eric coupled with Evelyn joining us, we now have an unrivalled management team to further strengthen our leadership capabilities in this field. We are well positioned to serve our clients and meet market demands, in this dynamic area of the market,” said Guillaume Cerutti, Chief Executive Officer, Christie’s.
