MoMA’s Eleventh Annual Film Benefit Presented by CHANEL to Honor Martin Scorsese on November 19

The Museum of Modern Art’s 2018 Film Benefit, presented by CHANEL, will honor Academy Award–winning Director Martin Scorsese on November 19. Winner of the 2006 Best Director Oscar for The Departed, Scorsese has also been nominated for the Best Director Academy Award on seven other occasions, for Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), Hugo (2011), and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). The Film Benefit will be highlighted by a gala dinner and a tribute recognizing Scorsese’s acclaimed work. MoMA will also pay tribute to Scorsese with a series focusing on his New York films, running October 30 through November 7 in the Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters.

MoMA’s vast film collection includes 20 of Scorsese’s films, including Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974), Taxi Driver, New York, New York (1977), Raging Bull, The Color of Money (1986), Goodfellas, The Age of Innocence (1993), The Aviator, and The Departed. Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation has funded 111 MoMA film preservations, including Rosita (Ernst Lubitsch, 1923), All About Eve (Joseph L. Mankiewicz, 1950), and On The Waterfront (Elia Kazan, 1954). His commitment to film preservation has yielded four MoMA exhibitions since the mid-1990s: Scorsese at the Movies in 1996; Scorsese Collects, a 2015 gallery exhibition featuring rare posters and pieces from the early 1900s through the 1950s, which was displayed in conjunction with Scorsese Screens; and, most recently, the two-part Martin Scorsese Presents Republic Rediscovered: New Restorations from Paramount Pictures.
