War Historian’s Book Depicts Evolved Roles of US Submarine during WWII

A micro-glimpse of a large submarine war in a larger naval war of a world at war

OWINGS MILLS – WEBWIRE

Entwined into this history of US submarine exploits in WWII are the rigors of the lengthy lone patrols, enduring the storms of the Pacific, and survival from deadly enemy depth charge attacks, along with the exhilaration of sinking enemy ships.

Yigo, Guam. Author Dave Lotz launches his latest book “Patrol Area 14.” The book provides a unique look at the US submarines in just one section of the ocean in the Pacific War.

As the war in the Pacific progressed, the role of the US submarines evolved to meet the challenges confronting the US Navy in the Western Pacific. “Patrol Area 14” vividly portrays and details the exploits of the US submarines in the waters of the Mariana Islands, whose control became essential to victory in the Pacific for the United States and defeat for Japan.

The book describes the patrols from solitary patrols beginning in 1942 to aggressive patrolling of the offshore waters, to bold approaches to harbor entrances, to sinking ships within sight of the islands in spite of determined Japanese air and sea anti-submarine efforts and supporting the US invasions of the islands in 1944.

The book was featured at the biggest book events in North America, BookExpo America and BookCon 2018 on May 31-Jun 3, 2018 at The Javits Center, NY.
