Presenters of the galas at the San Sebastian Festival’s 66th edition will, for the second year running, wear the fashion of San Sebastian, Gipuzkoa and the Basque Country, thanks to the collaboration with the Donostia Fashion Cluster of the Deputy Mayor’s Office (Fomento de San Sebastian), a commitment to highlighting the work of local designers on the national and international scene.

The Festival’s alliance with the creators and the institutions backing them was presented this morning at a press conference in the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, attended by the head of the Donostia Fashion Cluster, Laura Chamorro, the First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Hospitality, Ernesto Gasco, and the Director of the San Sebastian Festival, José Luis Rebordinos.

In the words of the Deputy Mayor, Ernesto Gasco, “the results of this second year of collaboration between the Film Festival and the Donostia Fashion Cluster demonstrate that San Sebastian has succeeded in achieving an official brand through which it can channel the entire local fashion industry. With this participation in the Festival we are offering our designers a unique opportunity to show their designs to millions of spectators, thanks to which we can also consolidate our fashion brand. Furthermore, the Festival has found in the cluster a tool to manage all questions related to fashion.”
Nagore Aranburu, presenter of the opening and Basque film galas,  Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, who will take part in the opening film gala, Maribel Verdú and Edurne Ormazabal, presenters of the closing gala, and Vanessa Rodríguez, who will introduce the directors in the Perlak section at the presentations in the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, will wear designs by:

  • Sophie et Voilà
  • Manuela va de fiesta
  • Alex Robe
  • Amaia Albes
  • Minimil
  • Box San Sebastián
  • Pertegaz
  • Joyería Munoa
  • Sastería Aldabaldetreku

These new firms contribute more than 40 fashion designs, including the clothes, accessories and jewellery worn by the gala presenters. A new feature this year is a collection for men which will be worn by the Festival Director, José Luis Rebordinos.

In this edition, the number of firms interested in dressing the presenters tripled. Thirty-one firms submitted a request and their proposals, from which nine were finally selected. In recent days trial runs have been made with the presenters in Madrid and San Sebastian (at the Maria Cristina Hotel) in order to make the final selection of the designs they will wear at the galas.

Like in other areas of creation, with this initiative the San Sebastian Festival represents yet another commitment to the local fashion industry, together with Donostia Fashion, the cluster responsible for the promotion, growth, development and raising awareness of local design in San Sebastian by means of activities focussed on strengthening the sector.
