K G Follett kicks off a new LGBTQ family and love series, “The Bears’ Den”

From the author of “A Different Kind of Family” comes a new story: “The Bears’ Den: Frankie & Josh.” For readers of the earlier trilogy, the title of K G Follett’s book – and series – ring a bell.
 
Indeed, readers fresh from reading Follett’s previous series of books, know that book three (Love Matters) sets up the premise for “The Bears’ Den,” which delves into the lives of the characters first introduced in the original series. The said subtitle of the follow-up series refers to the bear-themed B&B that Brad Kelly and his extended family establish out of the house his first partner, Randy, designed for Brad when he was still alive. The name is also a nod to a gay subculture that was started by men who felt marginalized back in the 1980s and 1990s, because they did not fit the gay stereotypes of the day.
 
Follett’s real-life friends, Frankie Pepper and Joshua Horne, are the inspiration behind “Frankie & Josh.” Their beautiful romance was cut short by complications of HIV/AIDS; Frankie and Joshua passed away in 2006 and 2012, respectively. This book serves as a tribute to them. 
 
“Frankie & Josh,” the first book in “The Bears’ Den” series, looks into the life, love, and struggle of Frankie Price and Josh Howard. Both are first introduced in “Love Matters” as high school teenagers who were kicked out of their homes by their fundamentalist parents due to their sexuality. After a year of trials and tribulations, they are reunited with their friend and Brad Kelly’s step-son, Jeremy.  Jeremy brings them home to Brad’s house, which is the pivotal moment in their story.  Still more troubles await, however, and the question becomes will their love for one another be enough to carry them through the challenges they are about to face?
