Around 400,000 people suffer from multiple sclerosis in the United States. Having been affected by this condition for many years, Dana H. Senders knows its effects all too well. However, it did not deter her fighting spirit. Her memoir, “Rise Up”, chronicles how she lived her life before and after her diagnosis.

The book follows Senders’ professional and personal struggles. She looks back at her career as a female basketball official during the 80s and 90s, a journey she found challenging yet fulfilling. She also goes into detail about her battle with multiple sclerosis, which she has been suffering from since 1990. Despite the setbacks present in her life, Senders did not cower away from them and instead faced them with as much courage she could muster.

Upon writing her book, Senders thought she would just be compiling stories she has told her family and friends. “I thought everybody would be interested in these stories. It kind of blossomed into being a lot more than I thought it would be,” she says.

Let “Rise Up” inspire you to power through your struggles. The book was featured in LitFire Publishing’s booth at the BookExpo America 2018. It sees publishing experts, authors, and readers coming together to witness how the industry will progress. The two-day event ran from May 30 to June 1, at the Javits Center in New York City.
