Book Teaches Young Readers to Show Compassion and Friendliness to Animals

"Neeka and the Squirrel Highway” will not only entertain children but also teach them valuable life lessons.

Silver Spring, MD – WEBWIRE

This is a fictionalized history book. Readers of this story should know that it grew out of a true incident. It is a fictionalized account of what happened in the home of a family in Baltimore, MD. I knew this would make a fascinating story for children, as it actually happened to my daughters during their childhood,” shares Harris.

Author Charlie Wes Harris launches “Neeka and the Squirrel Highway,” a children’s book based on a real-life event that his daughters experienced. The book follows the fun adventures of Neeka and her little furry friend.

One day, Neeka comes home from school and finds a furry surprise on her parents’ bed. What she thinks is a pair of brown socks turns out to be a sleeping squirrel. When the squirrel sees her, it is terribly frightened and tries to find a way to escape. Neeka is also afraid, but with her family’s help, she faces her fears and sets the squirrel free- after it has had a good time exploring their house.

Through the squirrel’s adventure into their home, Neeka learns that she can make a difference by showing compassion and thinking of others’ feelings. Her parents teach her that she should not let her fears keep her from doing the right thing.

The book comes with beautiful illustrations for a more enjoyable reading. Every reader can relate and connect to the story through these wonderful, detailed depictions.

The book has received critical acclaim with Foreword and Clarion Reviews describing the book as “an inventive and engaging story,”…“offering an amusing reaction to a startling event, that will certainly appeal to young audiences.”
