More than just a disaster and survival thriller, “Desert Beach” defines the indomitable human spirit.

Bob Gentry’s ‘crazy’ idea to write a book began about 25 years ago while he was still working as a counselor. Now that he has already retired, he has got time on his hands for writing. He published his first book, a survival fiction novel titled “Desert Beach” (Page Publishing, 2014).

Gentry wrote “Desert Beach” straight out of Atascadero, California where he moved with his family in 1980. “Atascadero is a bit of paradise which is unknown, so don’t tell anyone,” he said. Atascadero is the setting of the novel and it also happens that Atascadero is one of the cities affected by the 2003 San Simeon earthquake.

A great addition to earthquake thrillers, “Desert Beach” proves to be an adventure of cataclysmic proportions. A magnitude 10.2 earthquake sends California into the Pacific Ocean. The epicenter is in the state’s Central Coast in the well-known Atascadero State Prison, “where there may have been 900 staff and inmates injured and over 200 killed.”

The survivors, led by a mental health counselor named Bob, decide to leave the dead bodies behind and row to what is left of the U.S. mainland on boats. They eventually discover Las Vegas, which has become a beach town later named Desert Beach.

What future awaits Bob and his fellow survivors in Desert Beach? Will they find opportunities in the new desert beach? Find that out when you buy the book.
